Quito is the capital city of Ecuador and is perched at 2900m altitude. It's population is +/- 2 million people in a country of 15 million.

It is surrounded by volcanoes. Most of them active. The most famous of them is Cotopaxi which last erupted as recently as 1975.

Interesting facts :
Ecuador adopted the US Dollar as it's currency in 2000 as the local currency the "Sucre" was losing of it's value too quickly.
Quito pre-dates the arrival of the Spaniards in the new world by more than 500 years
